Spinnaker Trust, a Portland-based wealth management firm, has promoted four employees to leadership roles.
Zachary Smolkin has been promoted to senior vice president and chief trust officer. He will lead the firms administration team, overseeing fiduciary services and estate planning strategies. He works closely with the firm’s tax group, client advisors and service teams to assess risk and ensure the proper administration of trusts.
Prior to this position, Smolkin spent 13 years at the Boston law firm of Maselan & Jones, where he worked closely with clients on estate planning, business succession planning, and estate administration.
The Lowell, Mass., native holds his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School, a Master of Law in taxation from Boston University, and a master’s degree in corporate finance from Bentley College.
Maria Gwinn was promoted to senior vice president and tax director. She collaborates across Spinnaker Trust’s estate planning, trustee services and wealth management teams, advising clients on complex tax matters and long-term financial strategies.
She works closely with high-net-worth individuals, families and business owners to provide tax-efficient solutions that support their estate and trust planning goals. Gwinn received her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine and her master's from Thomas College.
Casey McCormack has been promoted to senior vice president and director of real estate. He oversees Spinnaker Trust’s real estate holdings and advisory services and helps clients with property acquisitions, valuations and long-term investment strategies.
Since joining the firm in 2020, McCormack has played a key role in expanding Spinnaker’s real estate offerings and ensuring clients integrate real estate into their overall wealth management plans. He received his bachelor's degree from Colgate University and his JD from the University of Maine School of Law.
Chris Whitney has been promoted to vice president and ESOP client advisor. Whitney advises clients on fiduciary responsibilities, plan structuring and governance. Since joining Spinnaker in 2016, he has helped grow the firm’s ESOP practice.
In addition to overseeing fiduciary services, Whitney educates ESOP participants, helps employees understand their benefits, and assists management in explaining valuation changes over time. He received his bachelor's degree in resource economics and small business management from the University of Vermont.
