Political action committee Casinos No! is considering asking for a recount or legally challenging Tuesday's narrow approval of a casino in Oxford County.
Dennis Bailey, the group's spokesman, told the Portland Press Herald it's considering requesting a recount once all the ballots are counted, which generally takes about five days. With 98% of precincts reporting, statewide voters supported the casino with a margin of 7,086 votes. Casinos No! has until Nov. 9 to ask for a recount. Bailey also said the PAC could challenge the legality of the measure, which authorizes Black Bear Entertainment to build a $165 million casino in Oxford County and prevents another casino from being built within 100 miles. "I don't think you can write a public law for private gain," Bailey told the paper.
Robert Lally, an investor with Black Bear Entertainment, said the development group hopes to pick a site for the four-season casino and resort this month and begin construction next summer, according to the paper.
