Casino group makes payment on Bates Mill

A development group looking to turn the Bates Mill No. 5 building in Lewiston into a casino has made its first payment in an option agreement on the building.
Great Falls Recreation and Redevelopment LLC paid the city $10,000 toward the option to buy the building, which received Lewiston voters' support earlier this month, according to the Sun Journal. Voters on June 8 approved the option by a vote of 5,041 to 2,574, which requires Great Falls to pay Lewiston $150,000 in four separate installments through December 2011. The first payment was due by July 8.
Great Falls has gathered 24,000 signatures so far to put the casino effort to a statewide vote in November 2011, according to the paper.
