The Central Maine Growth Council will sponsor a daylong “virtual job fair” on Tuesday, May 7.
The online Maine Virtual Job Fair is the first of its kind in the state, said Garvan Donegan, executive director of the council.
Using the fair’s video chat platform, Google Hangouts, job seekers will be able to speak privately face-to-face with recruiters from a wide variety of Maine employers. The council said it will release a list of employers taking part in the coming weeks.
Donegan said that the job fair removes many of the barriers that job seekers and employers may have in connecting, and opens up a wider range for both.
“With no geography, transportation, or time constraints, your career search is more convenient than ever,” said the web page for the job fair. “All that’s needed is a Google account and 15 minutes.”
The job fair will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Job seekers will be asked to create a Google account if they don’t already have one; browse the list of participating employers, which will be frequently updated; reserve time to speak with an HR representative or check their online calendar to ensure availability; then, on May 7, click on the video chat link to talk to the representative.
Those planning to participate may also sign up at the growth council’s website for updates on participating employers, tips on how to navigate the platform and interview and resume advice.
