The U.S. Navy has awarded Cianbro Corp. a $23 million contract for improvements to a dry dock at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.
The competitively awarded contract will provide for the fabrication and installation of several enclosures and passageway sections for a new defueling complex to support reactor servicing at Dry Dock No. 1 at the Kittery shipyard. The work is expected to be completed by July 2019.
“The work done at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has a direct impact on our national security, and this contract for Cianbro will help make sure that the shipyard is well-equipped to continue its important mission,” U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said a joint statement announcing the contract award. “We commend the Navy for investing in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, our national defense and the Maine economy, and we applaud the men and women at the shipyard for their hard work and dedication.”
Collins is a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The announcement comes just a week after Pittsfield-based Cianbro, Maine's largest construction company, announced it will partner with Northland Associates Inc. of Liverpool, N.Y., in a $215 million multi-phase contract to modernize and expand facilities at the U.S. Land Port of Entry in Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
