The city of South Portland has hired Robert Nadeau as its next director of human resources.
Nadeau will replace Stephanie Weaver, who retired in May after six years with the city.
“I am very excited to be starting this position with the city of South Portland,” said Nadeau. “I would like to work hard to continue to make the city an employer of choice staffed by people who endeavor to address the needs of this community. I am very much looking forward to it.”
Since July 2023, he has served as vice president of human resources for Twin Rivers Paper. Prior to this, he was the corporate director of HR for Cianbro, Maine's largest construction firm.
Nadeau worked for the Maine Community College System for over six years, serving in various leadership roles, including chief human resources officer, deputy counsel and chief counsel for labor and employment.
He also worked for the Maine Municipal Bond Bank for two years and served as an attorney for Drummond Woodsum for nearly 16 years.
“[Nadeau] has a track record in the public and private sectors of working positively with employees, both union and non-union,” said City Manager Scott Morelli. “His legal background will be a tremendous asset in this position, but his people skills and even-keeled demeanor are just as important. Robert will be a great addition to the city’s leadership team and to the HR office.”
Nadeau earned a J.D. from the New York University School of Law, a master of arts in European history from the University of Maine, and a B.A. in history and English from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
The Freeport resident was one of six candidates to be interviewed for the role. He will earn an annual salary of $124,664.
