Cianbro module headed for Canada

A massive module built by Cianbro Corp. for a nickel processing plant in Newfoundland will soon be transported to its destination.

The first of 22 modules the Pittsfield-based company is slated to build took about three months to complete and next week will be loaded onto a barge destined for Long Harbour, Newfoundland, according to the Bangor Daily News. Brazil-based mining company Vale in September awarded Cianbro the contract, the value of which was not released. The work helped to keep workers employed at the company's' Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, which was forced to lay off and relocate 400 workers as work on oil refinery modules ended. About 120 workers are on site at the Brewer facility, according to the paper.

About six other modules -- one-, two- and three-story electrical rooms -- are in progress.
