CMP, Emera partner for transmission project

Central Maine Power Co. and Emera Maine have announced a first joint transmission project that will connect a planned 250-megawatt wind project in Bridgewater to the region’s grid.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Wednesday’s announcement will allow wind developer EDP Renewables to move ahead with the Number Nine Wind Farm’s permitting process with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

The wind project, which is expected to be the largest of its kind in Maine when it is completed in 2017, has already arranged power purchasing agreements in Connecticut.

Gerry Chasse, Emera Maine’s CEO and president, said in a prepared statement that its joint project with CMP, expected to be the first of other joint transmission endeavors, will help improve the New England power grid’s reliability.
