CMP project awarded final permit

Central Maine Power Co. has received final federal approval for its $1.4 billion transmission upgrade project, paving the way for construction to begin.

CMP received its final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its Maine Power Reliability Project, which will build or rehabilitate 440 miles of transmission lines across the state, according to the Associated Press. The project received approval from state regulators in May after two years of review.

With the final permit in hand, the company plans to start work in August, according to the AP.
