Commercial electricity prices to rise

Electricity prices for most mid-sized and large businesses will rise slightly in September, though some industrial users could see a double-digit increase.

State regulators accepted bids for new standard offer prices and reported that medium and large commercial and industrial customers served by Bangor Hydro Electric will pay 6.8 cents and 7.8 cents per kilowatt hour, respectively, while businesses served by Central Maine Power Co. will pay 7.1 cents and 7.6 centers per kilowatt hour, according to a press release from the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The new prices are a 1%-2% increase for most, though large industrial customers in Bangor Hydro's territory will see an 11% increase.

The prices go into effect Sept. 1 and are valid for six months.
