CMP to hold hearings on upgrades

Central Maine Power on Friday announced a series of public informational meetings on its proposal for a massive upgrade to its bulk power transmission system.

The meetings will allow interested people to review materials detailing the proposed construction of electric utility facilities, and related environmental impacts, for the Maine Power Reliability Program. The $1.4 billion upgrade involves new construction or modifications to 485 miles of CMP's 345,000 volt and 115,000 volt transmission lines and substations, according to a CMP press release. It is one of the largest transmission projects ever proposed in the state, according to VillageSoup.

The meetings will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 at the Holiday Inn Express in Saco, on Sept. 4 at the Holiday Inn in Waterville, and on Sept. 9 at the Holiday Inn at the Ramada Conference Center in Lewiston.
