New finance commissioner takes post

Gov. John Baldacci yesterday swore in Ryan Low as commissioner of the state's Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

Low, who previously served in a variety of roles at the state government level, including state budget officer and associate finance commissioner, succeeds Rebecca Wyke, who left the finance commissioner's post to become vice chancellor of finance and administration for the University of Maine System.

The new finance commissioner is expected to face challenges from the outset, including assuming control of a $6.3 billion biennial budget that in recent years has been plagued by fiscal shortfalls, according to the Associated Press.
