The newly merged health care system serving Knox and Waldo counties plans to expand emergency departments to deal with increasing mental health needs and build new facilities in Belfast and Rockport.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Mark Biscone, president and CEO of Coastal Healthcare Alliance, the newly formed organization, announced the plans Tuesday during a series of community forums held in the midcoast area to update the public about the organizations. Pen Bay Healthcare and Waldo County Healthcare merged at the start of this month to form Coastal Healthcare Alliance.
Planning is under way to build new offices to house physicians on the campuses of Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, the BDN reported.
An estimated timeframe wasn’t reported, but Biscone said the offices in the new building would be finished as the leases expire over the next several years on the buildings being currently leased.
