The average price of heating oil in Maine continues to fall, dropping to the lowest point this heating season, while warmer temperatures have provided Mainers additional relief.
The statewide price dropped five cents from last week, reaching an average of $1.92 per gallon, the lowest price in more than a decade, according to the Maine Governor's Energy Office's weekly heating fuel price survey.
Coupled with the falling global price of oil, a milder start to the heating season in Maine has lowered the demand for fuel, the energy office said.
Across the state, there have been fewer heating degree days, a measure of heating demand, compared to last year and the 30-year average. Bangor has seen 10% fewer heating degree days than average, and Portland has seen 20% fewer heating degree days than average, according to the energy office.
The average kerosene price declined six cents, to $2.50 per gallon, but the average statewide propane price rose a cent to $2.21 per gallon.
