Conservation trust enjoys record y

The Maine Coast Heritage Trust wrapped up more conservation projects in 2007 than in any other year since its 1970 launch, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The trust announced Monday it finalized 50 projects, and protected nine islands and almost 20 miles of coast over the last 12 months, the paper reported. It completed 40 projects in 2006.

Representatives of the Topsham-based trust told the paper some of the projects had been in the works for years and donors may have wanted to close deals in 2007 because Congress may not extend tax incentives for conservation easements.
