Central Maine Power Co. has selected three out-of-state companies as lead contractors on its $1.4 billion transmission upgrade, a project expected to add up to 1,000 new jobs.
The contracts, worth a total of $524 million, were awarded to MYR Group Inc. of Illinois, Mississippi-based Irby Construction Co. and New York-based Hawkeye LLC, according to a press release from the utility. The companies will lead construction of nearly 440 miles of new transmission lines and are expected to tap more than 150 subcontractors, including nearly 120 Maine-based firms. Site preparation for the Maine Power Reliability Program began in September, performed in part by Bancroft Construction of South Paris, according to the Portland Press Herald. Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. has a partnership with Irby and secured more than 50% of the $524 million in contracts, Chairman Peter Vigue told the Bangor Daily News. Other Maine companies expected to work on the project are R.J. Grondin and Sons, Sargent Corp. and Shaw Bros. Construction.
CMP plans to hold a job fair Jan. 18 for individuals, contractors and suppliers, according to the paper.
