County OKs Black Nubble wind farm

County commissioners yesterday unanimously supported a scaled-back wind farm proposed for Black Nubble Mountain in northern Franklin County.

The revised plan by Maine Mountain Power, based in Yarmouth, calls for 18 wind turbines on only one mountain top, rather than the previously proposed 30 turbines spread across two mountains.

The $110 million wind farm on Black Nubble Mountain also will be located farther away from the Appalachian Trail, and development will be restricted on nearby Redington Mountain, mitigating many of the original environmental and aesthetic concerns raised by commissioners and other opponents to the project, according to a press release.
