Cross-border tourism project under way for Bay of Fundy

The Maine Office of Tourism and other Maine stakeholders are taking part in an Atlantic Growth Strategy pilot project for tourism development across the Maine/Canada border.

The Quoddy Tides reported the initiative focuses on developing a cohesive Bay of Fundy economic development and tourism strategy.

"Creating an integrated world‑class Fundy Coast experience will create jobs and grow the economy in the Atlantic region,” Karen Ludwig, member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, said at a recent meeting on Campobello Island to discuss the project.

Many United States visitors are introduced to Canada at Roosevelt Campobello International Park, Ludwig said.

"It's certainly an opportunity to get those visitors to other parts of Maine and to Canada,” she said.

According to its website, Atlantic Growth Strategy is a project of the government of Canada and the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

A similar two-nation marketing strategy is under way in the "Two-Nation Vacation" campaign launched in 2014 by Downeast Maine and New Brunswick, a cross-border tourism partnership designed to increase visitation for both regions.
