DEP recommends against Quantum wind project

Staff at the state's top environmental agency are recommending denial of a 14-turbine wind site on Passadumkeag Mountain proposed by Houston-based Quantum Utility Generation.

DEP spokeswoman Samantha Depoy-Warren told the Bangor Daily News that the agency is unlikely to receive any new information that would change the course of decision. If denied, she told the paper, it would be the first industrial wind site rejected by the state's DEP.

The agency's recommendation comes out of a concern that the development will have "an unreasonable adverse effect on existing uses" and the scenic qualities of the adjacent Saponac Pond.

Earlier this year, the state's Land Use Regulation Commission rejected a proposal by First Wind for a 27-turbine wind farm at Bowers Mountain, a project for which First Wind this week proposed a revised plan.
