A condo building with 13 units and a 15-car parking garage at 246 Eastern Promenade has received site plan approval from the Portland Planning Board.
Greg Shinberg, a representative for the development group, ECK Realty LLC, said it's believed to be the first new housing on the Eastern Prom itself in decades.
Shinberg told Mainebiz the building, which will be on a half acre, will have units ranging from a one-bedroom with a den to three bedrooms.
The architect is Carol A. Morrissette of RDS Architects in Portland.
Pre-construction services are being handled by New Hampshire-based DeStefano & Associates. Shinberg said DeStefano will likely be the contractor as well.
An existing home will be razed to make way for the condo building.
"I hear people say how difficult it is to get something developed in Portland," Shinberg said. "I work with the city all the time. The main thing is to follow the rules."
