DHHS won’t renew pact with MaineCare rides provider

The state has decided to cancel a one-year, $28.3 million contract with Connecticut-based Coordinated Transportation Solutions, which was hired to arrange rides to medical appointments for MaineCare patients.

The state’s Office of MaineCare Services said in a press release it plans to allow the contract to expire June 30 and will seek a new broker for non-emergency transportation in CTS’ coverage area, which includes most of the state.

CTS came under scrutiny by state regulators after it was found to have underreported the number of rider complaints about the service during its first month. The state previously used a decentralized system that relied on local nonprofits and brokers to arrange rides, but switched in response to federal incentives intended to make the program more accountable.
