Down East magazine has formed a cooperative publishing agreement with Dispatch, a publication covering music and events in southern Maine and coastal New Hampshire.
The two publishing companies announced the agreement on Monday, saying the deal is part of Down East’s “long range plan for engaging its readers in more ways.” Financial details of the agreement are not being disclosed.
As a result of the agreement, Down East and Dispatch will share sales staff to sell advertisements for both magazines and also will work together on editorial content. However, no immediate changes are planned for both magazines.
Dispatch, a Portland-based magazine that publishes nine times a year and lists events on its website, was founded in 2011 by serial entrepreneur Frank Copsidas. Copsidas, who will stay on as the magazine’s publisher, was once the music manager for James Brown and has owned and operated several radio stations across the country, along with a bottled water company, two restaurants and other ventures.
Down East, which covers contemporary living in Maine, was founded in 1954. The magazine is published by Camden-based multimedia company Down East Enterprise Inc., which also publishes Shooting Sportsman magazine.
“This relationship with Dispatch underlines our commitment to the people of Maine — to celebrate with them the things that make our state great,” Bob Fernald, president, publisher and CEO of Down East Enterprise, said in a prepared statement. “Dispatch’s mission and voice are unique in Maine and complement Down East. This partnership will take Dispatch to the next level.”
