Downeast LNG withdraws application

Downeast LNG, one of two companies hoping to build a liquefied natural gas terminal near Eastport, announced Friday it will temporarily withdraw its application.

Downeast LNG President Dean Girdis said the application is missing critical information from the Maine Department of Marine Resources and other studies, according to the Bangor Daily News. The Washington, D.C.-based company plans to submit a new application to the state by the end of the year which may include an alternative pipeline route around an area wildlife refuge, the paper reported.

Downeast LNG has proposed building a 320,000-cubic-meter LNG terminal, storage tanks, a regasification plant and a pier in Robbinston, the paper reported. The company's federal permit applications, filed last December, are not affected and are still pending.
