Portland-based cPort Credit Union has broken ground on a new branch building in Lewiston it expects to complete by late summer and open this fall staffed by 10 full-time employees
The building, which will be located at 321 Main St., will feature two interactive teller machines, a drive-thru with two lanes, along with standard in-person teller services.
"We are so excited to invest in Lewiston and to bring a new, modern banking experience to this vibrant area," said Gene Ardito, cPort’s president and CEO. "This new location will allow us to better serve new and existing members, as well as contribute to the development of this community.”
The credit union, which did not disclose the cost of construction, is teaming up on the project with Lewiston-based Hebert Construction, and with Tom Platz of Auburn-based Platz Associates on the design and development.
Tim Millett, a broker and partner with Porta & Co., helped cPort acquire the property, a former Dunkin’ Donuts that sat vacant for nearly three years.
"What stands out about cPort is their unwavering commitment to delivering the best financial experience to their members,” Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline said in a news release about the groundbreaking. “Today marks an investment in our community’s financial well-being, making essential services more accessible and saving valuable time for local residents.”
With $417.8 million in assets as of Sept. 30, 2024, cPort is ranked No,. 10 among Maine–based credit unions in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
The credit union, whose roots go back to 1931, has three branches in Portland, and one each in Augusta and Scarborough. It serves more than 35,000 members.
