Eastport finalizes Boat School sale

The sale of the Boat School in Eastport to Perry Marine has been finalized despite a lawsuit challenging it.

City and Perry Marine officials last Thursday formally ratified the sale of the 17-acre property and its three buildings for $300,000, according to a press release. Perry Marine, a joint venture between CPM Contractors in Freeport and Morrison Manufacturing in Perry, plans to use it to handle tidal turbine work for Ocean Renewable Power Co., and give some of the space to The Friends of the Boat School to continue running the marine education facility.

City councilors approved the sale in September, but last month a lawsuit from two residents challenged the transaction, arguing the city did not properly appraise the property and failed to put it out to bid as required by city charter.
