Ellsworth gets a taste of Jamaica with new eatery
After living in Maine for more than a decade, Shane Griffiths and Shane Peart decided that what Ellsworth needed was a little bit of Jamaica’s culinary world.
Griffiths and Peart opened Taste Jamaica takeout inside a small, but instantly recognizable cottage at 282 High St. in early May.
“We haven’t been able to find any Caribbean-flavored food that would be really enjoyable at a good price,” Griffiths told the Ellsworth American.
After consulting with Griffiths’ mother and Peart’s paternal grandmother for downhome Jamaican recipe ideas, the two restaurateurs set out to serve authentic dishes, including Curry Goat, Brown Stew Chicken and a “Yard Style” Pulled Pork sandwich that features a house-made jerk barbeque sauce.
