Exports rebound in 2010

Maine exporters made more than $3.1 billion in foreign sales in 2010, setting a new record, the Maine International Trade Center announced.

Maine companies' international sales were $3.15 billion last year, beating the previous export record of $3.02 billion set in 2008, according to a press release from MITC. Exports jumped 41% over a dismal 2009, when export sales totaled $2.23 billion. The increase from 2009 to 2010 ranks Maine second in the country for export growth. Big gains were seen in the semiconductor, wood pulp and paper industries, which accounted for $1.66 billion in sales. Seafood sales, Maine's fourth biggest export, increased 59% to $287 million.

The value of Maine's exports has grown 19% over the past five years, according to the release.
