Fairchild Semiconductor wins green product award

Fairchild Semiconductor has won an award for developing a product that reduces the amount of standby power devices require during those times when they're plugged in but not being used.

The South Portland-based company's FAN302HL with mWSAVER technology won the green product of the year 2011 e-Legacy award from the trade magazine, Electronic Product Design, for exceeding the government's energy-star requirements, a company press release says.

"Developed to address the challenge design engineers face where chargers typically sit plugged in and unused most of the time -- yet, still drawing power from the grid - the FAN302HL can reduce standby power, thereby saving energy, meeting government regulations and saving the consumer money," the company says in the press release.

In addition to computing applications, the FAN302HL is applicable for other charger devices for smartphones, cordless phones, DVD/set-top Bbxes and small appliances, the company says.
