Federal agents raided a Lewiston office building yesterday and seized documents from two health care organizations for an alleged case of fraud.
At least a dozen FBI agents and officials with the departments of Health and Human Services and Housing and Urban Development removed documents from offices on the fourth and fifth floors of The Professional Building on Lisbon Street, according to the Sun Journal. Garaad Dees told the paper he was part owner of Global Home Health Care and that he had been served a subpoena for allegations of fraud. The company provides in-home nonmedical health care-related services paid for by DHHS. Dees was not detained, but his cell phone was confiscated, and told the paper the federal agents said three-quarters of the cases with similar allegations turn out to be nothing. A man associated with another health care company, Decent Home Care Inc., was escorted from the building and also questioned by federal agents, according to the paper.
A similar raid took place at the same time at a home on Allen Avenue in Portland, but it was unclear if the two incidents were connected, the Sun Journal reported.
