FBI taps Portland-area media cos. to help catch fugitive

Two local media companies are helping the Federal Bureau of Investigation's efforts to track down one of the agency's 10 most wanted criminals.

Northeast Media Associates of South Portland and Black Fly Media of Portland recently produced a 30-second public service announcement on the notorious James "Whitey" Bulger case, according to a press release from Northeast Media Associates. Bulger is wanted in connection with numerous crimes, including 19 counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the Boston area during the 1970s.

"We were very excited to have the opportunity to work on such a significant project with the FBI, especially since this is the first time the bureau has done a public service announcement like this," Angie Helton, Northeast Media Associates' president, said in the release.

The PSA not only explains Bulger's crimes, but also focuses on Bulger's companion at the time of his disappearance, Catherine Grieg, asking viewers to call the FBI tip line if they have information on either one. The FBI is issuing rewards for clues on the two's whereabouts, the release says.

The PSA will run on television stations in the Boston area and across the country. To watch the video, visit www.nemediaassociates.com or go to www.fbi.gov and look under videos.
