FedEx Ground to leave Bangor for Hermon

FedEx Ground officials said the company plans to move its regional package distribution center from Bangor to a new 85,000-square-foot building in Hermon set for completion next summer.

The Bangor Daily News reported the company on Monday confirmed its plans, which city officials previously announced in July.

A company spokesman told the paper that it chose to move its facility from Bangor to Hermon’s Cold Brook Business Park for better access to major highways and its proximity to customers’ distribution centers. The company said its Bangor-based workers will move to the new facility and the company might add workers as needed.

The company will employ between 80 to 100 people at the new facility, which will be designed by the Maine firm Plymouth Engineering in collaboration with Alabama-based developer Westmoreland Co. Inc.
