Feds pull the plug on Robbinston gas terminal
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has fully dismissed an application from Downeast LNG to build a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Washington county town of Robbinston.
Tamara Young-Allen, spokeswoman for FERC, told the Bangor Daily News that the agency dismissed the project following an extended period of inactivity from the terminal’s developer, which was accompanied by several requests since last October to postpone proceedings as the developer attempted to draft investors and customers for the proposal.
“At this point, Downeast’s project has been before the commission in one form or another for more than 10 years,” the dismissal order reads, according to the BDN. “There has been essentially no progress at all toward completion of an application in the past nine months, and Downeast has presented nothing to persuade us that its situation is likely to change in the immediate future.”
Young-Allen told the BDN that Downeast LNG can submit another application for development, but it would have to start from square one.
