Finance commish Low stepping down

Ryan Low is stepping down from his post as the state's finance commissioner to take an administrative job with the University of Maine at Farmington.

Low will leave his job as commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services in early July, according to a press release from Gov. John Baldacci's office. Low has accepted a position handling budgetary and business matters at UMF as the interim vice president for administration, and his hiring still must be approved by the school's board of trustees.

Low was sworn in as commissioner in September 2008, having previously served as the governor's deputy chief of staff for two years. He is the second Cabinet member this week to announce a departure. Education Commissioner Susan Gendron on Wednesday said she will step down at the end of the month.
