A fire that damaged a construction project at Lee Dodge in Auburn last Thursday has been ruled accidental.
At around 5 p.m., Auburn Fire and Police Department were dispatched to Lee Dodge Auto Mall for a fire that had started in the old Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram showroom. The former showroom has been the site of a building improvement construction project.
According to the Auburn Fire Department, a demolition crew witnessed hot embers emanating from steel beams being cut and coming in contact with a rubber portion of the building. Fire units cleared the scene within an hour.
A post on Lee Dodge's social media stated that the building was empty during the time of the fire.
"Some of you may have seen reports of a fire at our Auburn location," said owner Lee Dodge in the post. "We want to let everyone know that no one was injured, and we deeply appreciate the amazing response from the Auburn Fire Department.
"Fortunately, the fire occurred at a building that was already undergoing renovations, so we'll be open for normal hours tomorrow. Everyone who reached out to us: thank you! We have some great neighbors and we appreciate your concern!"
Auburn Fire Department Deputy Chief Matthew Fifield told Mainebiz that he doesn't have any further information about the accidental blaze.
