Entrepreneur Linda Bean, granddaughter of Leon Leonwood Bean, plans to rebuild her Rockland lobster storage facility that burned in a fire over the weekend.
The fire, caused by an accidental electrical malfunction, killed 9,000 pounds of live lobster and heavily damaged the warehouse and office space used to grade and ship lobsters, according to the Bangor Daily News. Bean said she will repair the facility and that no long-term harm will come to her business, a lobster company called Linda Bean's Perfect Maine. The warehouse operated as Amalgamated Enterprises LLC and employed five people, all of whom will keep their jobs, she told the paper. The company's shipping, storage and sales operations have been temporarily relocated to its headquarters in Port Clyde.
Linda Bean's Perfect Maine, launched in 2008, sells live lobster and lobster products across the country, and operates nine restaurants in Maine, Massachusetts, Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
