First Cianbro module to be loaded

The first of the oil refinery modules built at Cianbro Corp.'s Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer is being prepared today to ship to its Texas destination, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Hake Rigging Co., a division of Memphis, Tenn.-based Barnhart Crane and Rigging, today will load the 200-ton module onto a massive barge. Once all four modules are loaded, the barge will transport them to the Motiva Port Arthur Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, where Motiva Enterprises LLC is working on a $7 billion expansion of the refinery. The second module is scheduled to be loaded Friday and the barge is slated to ship out for the 15- to 20-day trip to Texas later this month, according to the paper. In total, Cianbro will build 53 modules for the refinery.

In 2007, Pittsfield-based Cianbro began redeveloping the former Eastern Fine Paper Co. mill into a facility to manufacture steel building modules. Work on the modules began last April, and the facility employs more than 400, according to the paper.
