First Wind targets 4th wind power project

First Wind, the Boston-based wind power company behind the Mars Hill and Stetson Wind projects, is opening an office in Oakfield to support a new wind farm proposal near that Aroostook County town.

The 55.5-megawatt project, intended to generate enough electricity to power 20,000 homes, is in the advanced development stage, according to release from the company. An open house is planned for the office tomorrow.

First Wind owns and operates the 42-megawatt Mars Hill wind farm, also in Aroostook County, and the Stetson Wind projects in Washington County. It is also pursuing a 60-megawatt wind farm near the town of Lincoln in Penobscot County.
