Airports in Bangor, Belfast, Carrabassett Valley, Oxford and Rangeley have been awarded slightly under $10.54 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund infrastructure upgrades.
The grant funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program and is in addition to the $14 million FAA announced last week would be going to 19 other Maine airports.
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who is chairwoman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, announced the latest FAA awards in a news release on Wednesday.
The funding is allocated as follows:
“Maine’s airports are vital pieces of our state’s infrastructure that promote economic and industrial development throughout the surrounding communities,” Collins said. “These investments will allow the airports to make much needed improvements to their taxiways and runways, improving the safety and efficiency of operations.”
