After seven years in a creative role with Kennebec Savings Bank, graphic designer Todd Wentworth has been promoted to assistant vice president and creative officer at the Augusta-based lending institution.

He is the first to serve in the role. His responsibilities include overseeing the visual consistency across all marketing channels, collaborating with various departments to ensure brand alignment and finding innovative ways to visually communicate the bank’s mission and values.

Wentworth, who grew up in Winslow, joined Kennebec Savings as a senior creative and graphic designer in 2017 and was promoted to director of creative and graphic design in early 2022. The bank announced the promotion this week.

His creative work for the bank includes the interior design of the Portland branch, which opened at 53 Baxter Boulevard in spring 2023. Wentworth credits the project with giving him the opportunity to transform the brand’s retail experience while introducing Kennebec Savings to a new market.

“The positive reception of the Portland interior has set a new standard for all future lobby remodels for Kennebec Savings Bank,” he told Mainebiz.

Wentworth discovered his love of graphic design during his studies at Keene State College in New Hampshire. His LinkedIn profile shows that he graduated in 1999.

“Growing up in a small town in central Maine, I never considered creativity as a viable career path,” he said. “It wasn’t until college, where I was enrolled as a geology major, that I stumbled upon the world of graphic design. There, I discovered how thoughtful design can communicate ideas, products and information through the power of storytelling.

“I became fascinated by how subtle elements like layout, typography and imagery could shape perceptions, all while being strategically crafted to resonate with a specific audience,” he noted.

While Wentworth never intended to pursue a career in banking, he said that working in a creative role in banking is no different than any other industry.

“You're tasked with conveying a message, and your job is to find a creative way to communicate it,” he explained. “It’s all about storytelling, simplicity and understanding the needs of your target audience.”

Andrew Silsby, the bank’s president and CEO, said, "We are thrilled to recognize Todd's outstanding contributions and leadership. His creativity and strategic vision have been instrumental in advancing our marketing efforts and enhancing our brand's impact on the community. From radio, television and print advertisements to our annual reports and the rebranding of our interior spaces, there is truly nothing he can't create.”

Kennebec Savings Bank is ranked No. 8 among the largest Maine-based banks in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists. Rankings are based on assets as of June 30, 2024.
