Former IntelliCare employees launch new co.

A group of employees at a former telemedicine company in South Portland have launched a new company named SironaHealth Inc.

In November 2008, Medco Health Solutions of New Jersey announced it would be shutting down its subsidiary, IntelliCare Inc., at the end of February and laying off 200 of its 250 employees -- half of which were based in Maine -- and retaining 35 to 50 people to work remotely for Medco. The management team at IntelliCare purchased some physical assets from IntelliCare and launched SironaHealth on March 1, Daniel Day, SironaHealth's spokesman, told Mainebiz. The company has retained 150 former IntelliCare employees, half of which are based in Maine, Day said. The company hopes to hire back the rest of IntelliCare's laid-off employees as it grows, Day said.

SironaHealth provides health call center and nurse advice line programs to hospitals, physicians and other health care organizations nationwide, according to a press release from the company.
