GE to shed 100+ in Pittsfield

A subsidiary of General Electric Co. needs to shed more than 100 employees at its plant in Pittsfield because of a drop in sales of the products manufactured there.

A spokeswoman for GE told Portland's WCSH 6 that voluntary severance packages have been offered to more than 100 employees at its Pittsfield plant, which manufactures fire alarm systems. The spokeswoman told the station that if all the severance packages aren't accepted, there will be layoffs.

The GE subsidiary, Florida-based General Electric Infrastructure Security, employs 425 in Pittsfield.
