In the middle of ski season in Maine, Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co. is testing a new concept with a pop-up venue at the Sugarloaf ski area in Carrabassett Valley.

The Yarmouth-based business, with five locations in southern Maine, opened at Sugarloaf in December. The full-service restaurant also offers takeout.

A spokesperson for Brickyard Hollow told Mainebiz that the company is unsure if it plans to open other pop-up locations but aims to explore other opportunities.

The menu is identical to Brickyard’s Biddeford location, which opened in June 2024. Signature beers, as well as pizza, burgers and salads, are all on offer.

The new location, open Tuesday through Sunday since December, will operate through the end of March.

Wild dogs in the Queen City

Zombie Dogz, a gourmet hot dog brand that originated in Dayton, Ohio, opened at the Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway in Bangor on Jan. 8.

“I haven’t seen hot dog creations like these anywhere else in the country,” said Marc Guastella, vice president and general manager of the casino. “For an area that is so well known for spooky and scary stories, bringing Zombies to town year-round just makes sense. The uniqueness, fun, and zombie motif will fit in well in this community.”

Zombie Dogz will offer various types of hot dog creations.

Some of the traditional Zombie creations include “dead Dixie," a hot dog topped with Granny Smith apples, blue cheese crumbles, bacon bits, and drizzled with ranch dressing; “Juan of the dead," a hot dog topped with Swiss, pulled pork, BBQ sauce, mustard and pickles; and the locally inspired “Maniac," a red snapper hot dog topped with coleslaw, onions, red pepper relish and Green Goddess dressing.

Zombie Dogz, open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., also serves pizza, salads and sandwiches.

When in Waterville …

Augusta's Cushnoc Brewing Co. has opened a restaurant and bar in nearby Waterville called Cushnoc Cantina.

The eatery occupies the ground floor of the Bill & Joan Alfond Main Street Commons at 150 Main St. in Waterville. The 80-seat venue has a full kitchen and bar.

Cushnoc Cantina serves beer, tequilas, mezcals and cocktails. Its menu also includes tacos and other fare. The restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
