Fuel, wood complaints up

Complaints about shady fuel and wood dealers have quadrupled over the last year, according to the state agency tasked with responding to such complaints.

The Agriculture Department's Division of Quality Assurance and Regulation has heard from customers who believe they've been overcharged by a wood dealer or gas station, according to the Association Press. Firewood complaints in particular have increased, because many dealers don't realize they are regulated by the state, which sets standards like how much firewood makes up a cord.

Maine has sued two wood sellers since 2006, the AP reported. Both agreed to civil penalties and restitution.
