Independence Day traffic down
Traffic on the Maine Turnpike over the holiday weekend dropped 10% compared with the first weekend in July last year.
Even a Friday Fourth of July this year didn't boost the number of cars on the turnpike as compared to last year, according to VillageSoup.com. An exact comparison is hard to make, since last year's July 4 holiday was on a Wednesday.
The drop during the holiday weekend could indicate that fewer people are taking day trips to Maine, and Maine residents are opting not to travel, the news site said.
