The Bangor-based Geaghan Brothers Brewing Co. took the first steps toward a $1.5 million addition to its brewery Tuesday, securing a $55,000 land deal with the city.
The Bangor Daily News reported the 37-year-old restaurant and pub plans to double its brewing space, which will accommodate a growing side of the company’s business, which remains mostly food.
The paper reported that food makes up around 75% of the company’s sales and beer, which the company began producing at its brewery in 2011, makes up around 15%. The rest of the company's revenue comes from merchandise and sales of its beer in 64 oz. growlers.
The company says its immediate plans are to expand the regular beer offerings at its Bangor location, which is the only place it is served, but that it hopes to fulfill previous requests to provide beer for events like the city’s annual American Folk Festival and for the Cross Insurance Center, which is set to officially open Sept. 20.
