Although the Greetings from Portland mural that once resided on the side of the downtown Portland events venue The Asylum has been reduced to rubble, the artist behind the mural has been commissioned by Westbrook Arts & Culture to paint a similar mural for the city.
The mural, which will be located on a wall at the Greater Portland School of Jukado at 821 Main St. in Westbrook, will be painted by artist Mike Rich, who told Keep Me Current that it’s one of the largest projects he’s ever undertaken.
“It’s a big wall,” Rich told Keep Me Current. “I can’t wait to paint it. It’ll be a big difference, and I think the people of Westbrook will like it.”
And what will be on the Greetings from Westbrook mural? Rich told the publication that some letters in the still-in-the-works design could feature aspects of the city such as Wessie, the city’s resident python that has been spotted along the Presumpscot River; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in honor of their co-creator and Westbrook native Kevin Eastman and a special nod to musicians that call the city home.
