Group fights planned Turner Hannaford

A group of Turner residents is challenging the town's approval of a new Hannaford supermarket on Route 4.

The owners of three properties that would abut the development have filed an appeal of the planning board's approval of the project in Androscoggin County Superior Court, arguing they would be "adversely affected," according to the Sun Journal. The group also claimed the planning board's approval of the site plan application was an "abuse of discretion." The board voted 5-1 to approve the plan in March.

Hannaford Bros. Co. spokesman Mike Norton said the appeal would not change its proposal for a 36,000-square-foot grocery store. Construction was planned to start later this year.
