The latest annual report from the Maine Economic Growth Council gives Maine high marks on two economic indicators while five were flagged as concerns.
Eighth-grade math scores and the state's water quality won gold stars in the latest report, signaling progress toward benchmarks the MEGC has set for those areas.
But three categories again received red flags in the latest report — research and development spending, fourth-grade reading scores and wellness and prevention — and two new indicators — poverty and high speed Internet subscribers — were added to that list of concerns.
In all, the latest report indicates an even mix of progress and challenges as seven of the report's indicators came closer to benchmark figures and another seven fell further below their benchmarks.
The report's other 12 economic indicators, which range from per capita personal income to sustainable forest lands, showed no significant movement in either direction.
