Hancock-Bar Harbor airport expansion going out to bid
The Hancock County Commissioners will solicit bids on a $2.2 million expansion of the Hancock County-Bar Harbor airport later this month.
The Ellsworth American reported that the commissioners set March 26 to open the bidding for the project that will more than double the size of the terminal from 4,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet.
The paper reported 90% of the project will be paid by the Federal Aviation Administration, 5% by the airport and 5% by the Maine Department of Transportation.
If a winning bid is selected before a May 1 FAA deadline and ultimately approved, construction could begin as early as July.
