Hannaford Supermarkets completed its purchase of two Bud’s Shop ‘n Save stores, it said recently.
The stores are in Newport, at Newport Plaza at 44 Moosehead Trail, and in Dexter, at 37 Church St. They’re smaller than the average Hannaford, at 32,600-square feet and 24,500 square feet, respectively.
The stores opened under the Hannaford flag on Dec. 9.
Hannaford also said it agreed to purchase the assets of pharmacies in the two stores. The seller is Community Pharmacies. The transfer of assets is expected to be completed by year’s end and no disruption in service is planned.
Scarborough-based Hannaford now has 62 stores in Maine and 181 total in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York. It has 26,000 customers. Hannaford is owned by the Belgian conglomerate Delhaize Group.
